    David J. Ballou, Esquire - Attorney and Director

    David J. Ballou, Esq., is Attorney and Director at Ballou Law. Prior to the establishment of Ballou Law, Attorney Ballou ran and operated Ballou & Bedell with attorney-partner Kathryn Bedell for over thirty years. For nearly as long he has been an elite producer in northern New England as an underwriter and agent for First American Title Insurance Company.

    Attorney Ballou is a member and former president of the York County Bar Association; Maine State Bar Association (Real Estate and Title Section); and the Greater York Chamber of Commerce. He is a former Board member of several local organizations in southern Maine, including York Land Trust; Brixham Montessori Friends School; Town of York Board of Assessment Review; and New Hampshire East Youth Hockey Association, where he was also Vice President and Coach. He regularly volunteers for and sponsors (through his law firm) The Big Andrew Foundation’s local surf competition on Long Sands Beach in York, founded and championed by his nephews.

    Attorney Ballou attended Colby College (B.A.) and Suffolk University (J.D.) and was subsequently admitted to the Bar in both Maine and Massachusetts. He enthusiastically subscribes to and models a work hard, play hard philosophy. When he’s not in the office, you might find him surfing, golfing, practicing yoga, or supporting the local art community.

  • Sarah E. Ross, Paralegal & Assistant to Attorney Ballou

    As one of the firm's paralegals and assistant to Attorney Ballou, Sarah plays a central role in the day-to-day operations of the firm. She oversees the firm's corporate transactions, guiding entity formations, annual report filings, business registrations, corporate record maintenance, and related business matters. She is also involved in a variety of residential and commercial real estate matters, including deed and document preparation and recording.

    As a lifelong educator with a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree, Sarah brings an educator's perspective to her work. With firsthand experience forming and managing her own educational consulting business, she is an empathic and supportive guide to clients, helping them navigate complex legal requirements with confidence.

    Sarah lives in York Harbor, where she enjoys entertaining, beach walks, yoga, golf, piano, reading, and writing. A published poet, she occasionally gives public readings of her work.

  • Maura A. Ragnarsson, Office Administrator

    Maura is the welcoming first point of contact for Ballou Law, known for her warm personality, strong communication skills, and attention to detail. With experience in customer service, marketing, and business operations, she brings an organized and approachable presence to every interaction. Her background in hospitality and nonprofit work has shaped her ability to connect with people and create thoughtful, positive experiences.

    Maura works closely with the Ballou Law team to keep matters moving efficiently, coordinates communications and scheduling, and helps ensure clients receive responsive and thoughtful service throughout their experience with the firm.

    A recent graduate from the University of Texas at Austin with degrees in Government and Fashion and Consumer Science, Maura combines professionalism with creativity offering a fresh perspective. In her free time, she enjoys embroidering, blueberry iced lattes, reading, and making new memories with friends and family.

  • Rebecca M.C. Archer, M.S.L., Paralegal

    Rebecca is a corporate paralegal at Ballou Law and mainly works with corporate and LLC clients to assist with business formation, file annual reports, and answer questions related to company development.

    Prior to joining Ballou Law, Rebecca earned her Master of Legal Studies from Fordham School of Law. She is known for her attention to detail and for helping clients navigate the legal aspects of starting and maintaining their businesses.

    Outside of the office, Rebecca enjoys running long distances and playing soccer on the beach with her black Labrador, Lily.

  • Cindy Farley, Paralegal

    Cindy came to Ballou Law with a vast legal support background, having worked in local law firms over the past 32 years.  Cindy has experience in several areas of law and at Ballou Law is assisting in seller representation real estate transactions while also providing support where needed in the office.  Cindy works on a part-time basis and when she is not at work, you can find her spending time with family and friends and enjoying summers at Great East Lake with her husband, John.

  • Lori Hebert, Paralegal

    Lori brings more than 35 years of experience in the real estate industry, assisting clients with both commercial and residential real estate transactions throughout Maine's seacoast region. Her extensive knowledge of the closing process, title matters, and transactional requirements enables her to provide efficient and detail-oriented support to attorneys and clients alike.

    Over the course of her career, Lori has developed a reputation for her professionalism, practical problem-solving skills, and commitment to ensuring that each transaction proceeds smoothly from contract to closing. She is dedicated to delivering exceptional client service and helping buyers, sellers, lenders, and real estate professionals navigate the complexities of real estate transactions with confidence.

    Outside of the office, Lori enjoys biking and taking advantage of Maine's many outdoor recreational opportunities. She also values spending time with Cooper, her Brittany Spaniel.
